Factor affecting the resistance of solid conductor:

# Factor affecting the resistance of solid conductor:

1) Length of conductor:
The resistance of solid conductor is directly proportional to its length.
i.e R ∝ l

2) Area of cross section:
The resistance of solid conductor is  inversely proportional to the the area of cross section.
i.e R ∝ 1/A

Thus, the thick conductor has minimum resistance but thin conductor has maximum resistance.

3) Temperature of conductor :
On increasing the temperature of metallic conductor its resistance also increases.
i.e temperature coefficient of resistance of matallic conductor is positive

Note: on increasing the temperature of semiconductor its resistance decreases.

4) Material of conductor:
Conductor of different material are kept at same temperature having equal length and having equal area of cross section but there resistance are different.
